Over the course of two years, including the period prior to,
during, and after the United States’ invasion of Iraq in 2003, Erik and Robin Sol traveled across America on a carefully mapped route whose trail traced the words
“NO WAR”
22,000 miles long across the face of the United States.
Punctuated by vigils in places of historical significance, the NO WAR Project unfolds as an attempt to document this vitally important period of American history, as polarized elements of the American populace strive to understand how violence, war, and imperialistic endeavors fit into the context of what America is, was, and will be. Robin and Erik present a human face to the evolution of activism, confronting the pitfalls and hard angles of their own ideals as they confronted a country transforming beneath their wheels.
The project’s historical undertones reconnects us to the past as a means to redefine our future. By putting up a mirror to America’s history, the hope is to set a more informed path to tomorrow.
By crossing political and cultural lines in pursuit of the truth of themselves and the country around them, Robin and Erik’s journey transcends the culture of apathy and the polarized politics of our country. The project aims to inspire and empower others to expand the boundaries of social and political activism.
